When (当dāng ) he 他 ascended (上登shàng dēng) the throne (皇位huáng wèi ) in 247 BC, China 中国 was divided (分为fēn wéi ) into seven states (七个国家qī gè guó jiā ) long been at war with one another. The boy-king 童王 began his reign (朝代cháo dài) with three goals (目标mù biāo). One was to conquer (征服zhēng fú ) the other six states and unite (统一tǒng yī) the country (国家guó jiā). Another was to be the most powerful (雄强xióng qiáng) ruler (帝王dì wáng) in China. The last was to erect (建设jiàn shè) the grandest (最伟大zuì wěi dà ) tomb (坟墓fén mù) ever built. He succeeded (成功chéng gōng) in all three.
