Three years (三年) before he died (死) the Emperor decided (决 定) that the history (历 史) of China (中 国) was to begin (开 始) with his reign (统 治 时 期). He ordered all books (书) written before him to be burned (烧 毁). Any scholar (学 者) who dared (敢) to object (反 对) was buried alive (活 埋).
